TRICHY: A train carrying 80 tonne of liquid oxygen from Bhilai in Chhattisgarh reached Trichy on Saturday morning. The oxygen was distributed to 13 locations in the central region and a few other districts.
The train loaded with liquid oxygen in the tankers arrived at Goodshed yard of Trichy Railway Division. Municipal administration minister KN Nehru, Trichy collector S Sivarasu and others visited the yard.
Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Government Hospital (MGMGH) in Trichy was given 12 tonne of liquid medical oxygen. Thanjavur Government Medical College Hospital was also allotted 12 tonne of oxygen. Government Raja Mirasudar Hospital in Thanjavur got six tonne of oxygen. Tiruvarur Government Medical College Hospital was allotted 10 tonne of oxygen.
The quantity of liquid oxygen supplied to other places was –Government Medical College Hospital in Pudukottai – 8 tonne, Karur Government Medical College Hospital – 7 tonne, Kumbakonam – 4 tonne, Nagappattinam – 4 tonne, Mayiladuthurai – 4 tonne, Ariyalur – 2 tonne and Perambalur – 1 tonne.
Namakkal and Dindigul districts were allotted five tonne of oxygen each.
Minister Nehru said that MGMGH has a sufficient supply of medical oxygen. “Covid-19 cases are coming down. Beds in the hospitals are becoming vacant. Even if a third wave hits, the state government will be fully prepared,” he told the reporters.
